Legal and Regulatory Challenges in Developing/Deploying Electric Vehicle Chargers

This program will discuss the opportunities and related risks involved in installation and operation of retail EV Charger systems, by walking through the life cycle of an EV charging station, from pre-installation design, to end-of-life removal.
Steve Campbell is an attorney in Clark Hill’s Environment, Energy, and Natural Resources practice group. Steve’s practice is concentrated on assisting municipal, industrial, and commercial clients in complex regulatory, transactional, and litigation matters involving federal, state, and local environmental and utility laws. This includes representing and advising clients, attorneys, and professionals on a myriad of construction, development, and operational issues, including administrative permitting, procedural and reporting requirements, environmental and pollution liability protections, and brownfield remediation and redevelopment projects. Steve’s practice also includes advising clients with regard to municipal zoning issues, including the siting of renewable energy resources, and the incorporation of environmental and sustainability concepts in project development.
Steve’s practice also focuses on advising and representing energy users in utility litigation, regulatory matters, and policy development before the state public utility commissions and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. This includes representing and advising clients on matters regarding utility billing practices, rate setting, power supply cost recovery, demand response resources, net metering and distributed generation, distributed energy resources and distribution system interconnection, and mechanisms to ensure resource adequacy in competitive retail areas.
