November 10, 2017 – New Markets for Retail Power & Natural Gas
November 10, 2017 @ 11:45 am - 1:00 pm
For November’s meeting, Gary Aksamit, founder and chairman of Americans For Electricity Choice (AFEC), will educate us on new markets for retail power and natural gas.
Gary Aksamit is a true entrepreneur and the founder and chairman of Americans For Electricity Choice, which educates citizens and lobbies for energy competition and transparency.
Mr. Aksamit was a successful pit trader in the Kansas City and Chicago futures exchanges and a wholesale power marketer for most of the past 25 years, during which he oversaw the successful execution of large multi-meter power transactions. This experience contributed to his deep knowledge of energy markets, specifically in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), Pennsylvania New Jersey Maryland interconnect (PJM) and the Southwest Power Pool (SPP). In 2008, Mr. Aksamit was asked by business and political leaders in his home state of Nebraska to explore energy projects that would benefit the state and region.
In 2016, rapid changes in the electric industry and years of drastic increases in electricity prices by incumbent monopoly utilities throughout the country led to the formation of Americans For Electricity Choice.
As a multifaceted organization, AFEC consists of two main entities: Americans For Electricity Choice (AFEC), a 501(c)4 corporation; and, AFEC Action, a Super PAC, that support electricity retail choice efforts in 36 states which currently do not have competitive electricity markets for consumers. In addition, AFEC will soon be announcing a new 501(c)3 think tank organization. Mr. Aksamit travels the country promoting retail electricity choice and knows competition makes companies more efficient, empowers consumers, and promotes disruptive innovation.
