The Dallas Electric Club welcomes Dexter Lewis for it’s February Meeting.

This presentation will provide an overview of  research into Unmanned Aircraft Systems by the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI).  This encompasses work in the Transmission, Distribution, and Generation environments.  Also, Dexter will discuss a few lessons learned to date from utility UAS programs.

Dexter is a part of EPRI’s Transmission and Distribution Program in the Power Delivery and Utilization sector. His working responsibilities include supporting EPRI’s ongoing UAS research portfolio; identifying new research opportunities; and supporting the UAS needs of the utility industry. A few specific research areas of interest include investigating the automation capabilities of UAS for automated inspections and evaluating the state of the industry for image processing.

Before joining EPRI, Dexter worked for 10 years for Southern Company Services in their Research and Development department. His previous work activities involved leading Southern Company’s Distribution Research Program; developing their UAS program; and running their UAS research.

Dexter Lewis is a Senior Technical Leader at the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) and is a registered professional engineer in the state of Alabama. He received his Masters and Bachelors of science in electrical engineering from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dexter is also a certified private and remote pilot. Dexter lives in Birmingham, AL with wife Liz and their two dogs.
